Premiere Paydirt!!!!!

Torri Higginson

It’s taken me a week just to decide what I had to say about the season 4 premiere of Stargate: Atlantis. Normally, I don’t find myself lacking in words, but this time… all that comes to mind are the same old boring ones. Words like ‘Wow!’ And ‘Holy Crap!’ And ‘Huh?’ So, I find myself reduced to expressing myself in list form, and here goes. If you haven’t seen the ep and don’t want spoilers, don’t read.

1 — Weir is a flipping cyborg!!! I, for one, think that is amazingly cool. While I have always enjoyed her character, she has always lacked a trait that made her stand out from the rest. She could speak Ancient, but so could many others on the Atlantis base. She was a diplomat. Yeah, but how often did she really get to use this ability to good effect? Seldom. Seldom. Teyla’s a fighter, a part Wraith and a local. Ronin is a runner and a local. John is a soldier, has the gene and is an unbelievable pilot. Rodney, well, Rodney’s is Mr. Universal Science with Zelenka as a his sidekick. But Liz? Well, now she has an incredible ability all her own. And if she has to miss much of this season because of the change, that’s ok. I trust to writer’s to bring her back cooler than ever.

2 – Rodney is a genius. Enough said.

3 – The depth of emotion we saw in John and in Ronin during the premiere was truly impressive. I want to see more! Oh, and the Ronin/Weir shippers and Teyla/Weir slasher must have really loved this ep. Hints of everything all around.

4 – I still haven’t warmed up to Jewel Staite as the new doctor. This is ironic since I am a Browncoat through and through. However, the character as written and, unfortunately, performed is a cookie cutter doctor. Except for not wanting the job, she lacks the quirks and idiosyncrasies that make scifi characters interesting.

5 – I loved the entire section with the asteroid field. Especially McKay’s comment that he once scored zero on the game Asteroids. That is just classic McKay. Go, Rodney!

6 – Finally, a mild complaint. What is with Sam’s new hair? I know that Amanda Tapping has wanted long hair for years, but Sam Carter is still bound by military regs. It bothers me. What do you guys think?

The Terrible Twos!!!!

by

McKayBeckett.jpgOh… the agony…

It’s only two days until the Atlantis Season Four premiere. As such, the itch that I haven’t been able to scratch for a few months should be getting better. But oh, no! It’s worse. The closer we get, the harder it is to wait. So here’s my list of twosomes that I long to see again.

1. McKay and Sheppard – They make me laugh so much with their brotherly high jinks.
2. Ronin and Teyla – I’m not a Reyla ship fan, however, I am a huge Reyla gen fan! Watching them exchange looks behind the backs of the mad Earthers is just lovely.
3. Lorne and Zelenka – These two characters have developed an odd but enjoyable friendship. I hear there’s even slash for them. O_O Heavens.
4. McKay and Beckett — *sob*
5. Kolya and Sheppard – It seriously chafes me that they killed Kolya. He was a wonderful villain, dark but funny, scary but intriguing. I miss him…

Three Times Titillation…

by

chayasar.jpg

It’s now three torturous days until the Stargate: Atlantis Season Four Premiere! And so I present to you my three lists of three things. Personally, I think they’re three-rrific. ;-)

  • Three Women I Love to Loathe!
  • 1. Chaya (Need you ask??? Chaya is a lying, conniving little *bleep.* While I don’t entirely blame her for hiding her ascendiness, I do blame her for giving our heroes false hope that a compromise might be reached.)
    2. Allina (The Back-Stabbing Bimbo from The Brotherhood! I soooooo despise this woman. She played on Rodney’s affections and then betrayed him. My Rodney! Honestly. Some people should be neutered.)
    3. Shen Xiaoyi (The only Chinese, and only female member of the IOA, Shen turned on Weir in a heartbeat to cover her own butt.)

  • Three Men Who Make Me Drool
  • 1. Major Lorne (Who doesn’t love the extreme hotness that is Lorne? His smile is adorable, verging on John Sheppard adorable, and he paints. If he cooks, the man is perfect. Plus, I own www.kavansmith.com. And Lorne is played by Kavan Smith. J
    2. Michael (When he’s human.) I have loved the actor who plays Michael since his role in Star Trek: Enterprise.
    3. Ronin (*Just paste a goofy grin on my face and move on.*)

  • Three Men Who Need to Be Smacked Upside the Head
  • 1. Woolsey (He flips position more often than a flapjack. I really can’t stand this guy. And that is despite adoring Robert Picardo. I don’t even love to hate Woosley. I just hate him.
    2. Kavanagh (Bleh!)
    3. Smeadon (Double-Crossing Guy from The Storm and The Eye)

What first made me love Daniel?

    The answer is simple.

    It was the fluttering eyelashes.

Does it every time. What is worse, my boyfriend has figured that out.

    I’m doomed.

    But happy…

And somehow, this clip just seem appropriate.

    Go, Vala!

    Shanks to Make Eureka Melt!

    by

    doig.jpg
Shanks with Doig at 2002 Comicon

Michael Shanks, who played Stargate icon Dr. Daniel Jackson in Stargate: SG1 and Stargate: Atlantis is set to guest star on new scifi favorite, Eureka!

The episode featuring Shanks will air on Sept. 25 on the SciFi Channel. Shanks plays an artist named Christopher Dactylos who winds up as the chief suspect in a murder investigation. In a TV Guide interview, Shank’s noted that his character was fired by Global Dynamics due to a personality conflict with company head Nathan.

In an amusing twist, Shank’s wife, Lexa Doig will appear as a guest on Eureka in the week prior to Shank’s own appearance.

    Cat, cat, CAT!

    by

In the pilot of Stargate: Atlantis, Rodney had a cat. Ad let’s face it, Rodney is clearly a cat kinda person. He need one. Ever since they got back in touch with Earth, I’ve thought that they should have pets on Atlantis. And now, I’ve found the perfect pet for Rodney!!! Check it out…

    My Mother is Very Sick…

    by

    Dear Readers,

As those of you have been following my blogs may remember, my mother had major surgery in July. The surgery was needed to undo a major blockage in one of her arteries. Anyway, at first the surgery seemed to have done a great deal of good. This was a tremendous relief as Mom had been having minor strokes due to the blockage.

It seems the surgery didn’t do enough. Mom has had several more minor strokes. She’s been very ill. And today, after yet more and more and more tests, we found out that one of the minor strokes was in fact a major stroke. Her entire right side is affected. She’s having trouble with balance, speech and a number of other issues. Now, I don’t mean to imply that’s she’s paralyzed or dumb. But she is very weak on that side. The minor strokes are still coming, and we’re going to have to go through more tests and maybe another major surgery.

To top it all off, the first surgery will apparently take six or more months to recover from and this is complicated by the fact that she’s still having “mini-strokes” which I think are also called TI’s.

This is the reason that my blog posts have been off their normal schedule or missing entirely on at least one or two days. Please bear with me, as I am doing my best to get everything back on track. In the meanwhile, you may see a lot of short posts and YouTube videos. This post is for the 28th and 29th of August, in case I miss more after this.

Oh, and Mom wanted me to let all you know that she really appreciated your thoughts and prayers last time. J So did I.

    Thanks,
    Catslyn/Zeva/Lori

This Must Be What Going Insane Feels Like…

    by

“This must be what going insane feels like…”

That was my roommate, Anne Marie’s only comment after watching this video.
I, however, couldn’t find any words at all. None. Zip. Stunned doesn’t begin to describe it. So just watch as David Hewlett… raps.

The Most Memorable Stargate Quote of All Time!!!

    by

In my opinion, there is but one word in the most memorable Stargate quote of all time, which just happens to be from the original 1994 movie.

    *clears throat*

    Bunniweh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next week, the selection of my personal favorite quotable quotes will continue. Until then… tastes like chicken. ;-)

    About Watching Stargate

This site is about "Stargate" - the science fiction media franchise that began in 1994 with the feature film "Stargate". The subsequent body of works detail an elaborate fictional universe where Earth battles hostile aliens possessing superior technology or supernatural powers. The film's story is continued in novel form, in two live-action television series ("Stargate SG-1" and "Stargate Atlantis"), one animated series ("Stargate Infinity"), and in other derivative works.
